Wilthagen
History

  • The road to
    major supplier

Our journey started in 1972 with founders Adrie and Paulien Wilthagen. With hard work and creativity, the butcher shop grew prosperously. Soon our first snack, pork rinds, was created from a surplus of pork bacon. This proved to be a success and the range expanded to a full-fledged line of artisanal meats for the supermarket channel.

In 1982, the butcher shop was sold and we focused entirely on production. By combining the artisanal techniques and experience from the meat industry with a keen eye for sustainable innovations, Wilthagen was ready for the next step.

From 1994 onwards, Marcel and Frank Wilthagen gave the company a new direction: an innovative food producer with unique recipes, often in collaboration with customers, both national and international food retailers.

In the period 2003-2004 Wilthagen started producing private labels to offer our customers more distinction compared to their competitors.

  • Future-oriented, Innovative and sustainable

The third generation, Arthur and Koen Wilthagen, are now working with the second generation on new, responsible product developments. Aware of social trends and changing consumer demands, Wilthagen focuses on snacks for a wide audience in addition to the bacon and prawn cracker products, for example snacks made from AGF residual flows such as peppers, leeks and carrots.

We stand for consistent quality and innovation, and continue to expand our range with products that meet the needs of conscious consumers.

In 1996 there was another move. This time to Tholen in Zeeland, where a completely new factory could be set up on a new industrial estate. That was the ideal moment to automate and mechanize the work. A deep fryer was installed and a Small Packaging Department was established.
